Germany 2 England 3: Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Eric Dier seal dramatic comeback

26 Mar

And in added time, Eric Dier headed a dramatic winner to give Roy Hodgson’s side a famous victory in Berlin.

Germany were leading 2-0 through goals from Toni Kroos and Mario Gomez when Tottenham’s Kane scored a superb solo effort.

Then Leicester’s Vardy, who had been on the field only four minutes, brilliantly converted a Nathaniel Clyne cross at the far post in the 74th minute for his first England goal.

It was a hugely encouraging performance by England ahead of Euro 2016 and it delighted the 4,000 noisy travelling fans.

And they should have scored another seven minutes from time but the impressive Dele Alli, 19, shot over with the goal at his mercy and Manuel Neuer nowhere.

Tests on the international stage do not come much bigger than this and England kicked off with a collective cap count of just 161 – an average of only a little more than 14 senior international appearances per player.

But the Three Lions made the more confi dent start and could have been ahead after only seven minutes.
